Spring starts in the Northern Hemisphere, and autumn begins in the Southern Hemisphere.
The pause - and shift towards increasing light - has long been recognized as a very potent time to Focus and set Intentions for the coming year. From this day forward, you are moving, along with everyone in the Northern hemisphere, more and more into the light.

The Spring Equinox is associated with, or known as: Alban Eilir, Feast of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Festival of Trees, Lady Day, Rites of Spring, and the Vernal Equinox.
The first day of spring (Spring Equinox) also marks the beginning of Noruz (No Ruz or NawRuz), the Persian New Year. The celebration lasts 13 days and is rooted in the 3,000-year-old Zorastrian tradition.
In early European traditions, Spring Equinox is also known as Ostara. The Goddess manifests as Ostara or Eostre in a festival of new growth. She carries a basket of eggs and is joined by a rabbit, a manifestation of the God of Fertility and abundance. Green represents the greening of the land with vegetation and is sacred to this Sabbat.
Ever wonder where "traditions" come from?
Spring Equinox is a time of growing and fertility. Both seeds and eggs represented fertility. Eggs contain the new animal life and seeds become the new plant life. Z Budapest in "Grandmother of Time" says, "The eggs were dyed red (the color of life) on the Festival of Astarte (Mid-March.)" Another tradition is the beautifully decorated eggs from the Ukraine (pysanky.) They are covered with magic words, symbols and colors for protection, fertility, good luck, and strength.Astronomy set religious dates -- a common practice -- even today.
The Spring Equinox and the moon cycles are significant in Christianity because Easter always falls on the first Sunday (Sun's day) after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Other seasonal holidays follow this tradition as well.The Spring Equinox is the time of "seeding and planting" your year ahead.
